— FLORIDA'S UPDATED ELECTRICAL CODE

Surge protection is now part of modern dwelling-service requirements.

Florida's current electrical code is based on the 2020 National Electrical Code, which added surge-protective-device requirements for dwelling-unit services. The requirement typically comes into play with new or replacement service work—not as an automatic retrofit mandate for every existing home. Even when it is not required, adding protection can be a sensible upgrade.

— SURGE PROTECTION FAQ

What Florida homeowners should know.

What does a whole-home surge protector help protect?

+

It helps limit damaging transient voltage before it reaches expensive equipment connected to the electrical system, including EV chargers, HVAC equipment, major appliances, televisions, computers and smart-home devices.

Will you install a Type 1 or Type 2 surge protector?

+

Either may be appropriate depending on the electrical equipment and installation location. We select and place a listed device that fits the panel and the home's electrical setup.

Is whole-home surge protection required in Florida?

+

Florida's current electrical code is based on the 2020 National Electrical Code, which added surge-protective-device requirements for dwelling-unit services. The requirement commonly applies to new or replacement service work; existing homes are not automatically required to be retrofitted solely because the code changed.

Can you protect a home with more than one main panel?

+

Yes. Each main panel can be evaluated for its own surge protection. We offer discounted pricing for additional main panels when the devices are installed during the same visit.

Do surge protectors have a warranty?

+

The models we install include a manufacturer's warranty, commonly ranging from one to three years depending on the selected device. We will confirm the applicable warranty during the consultation.

Should an older surge protector be replaced?

+

A dated device may no longer provide the protection, status indication or installation approach expected from current equipment. We can inspect the existing protector, review its placement and recommend an upgrade when appropriate.

— 1–3 YEAR MANUFACTURER WARRANTY

Add surge protection while we're already at the panel.

Warranty length depends on the selected model and will be confirmed during consultation.
